It's been so busy the last few years i've never had time to update my demo reel. So i figured it's about time before 2017 is over. There's a lot that was left out for time but I think it has a good range of things i've done :) I hope you agree!
I made this quick little animation for fun on the weekend AND learned how to make pumpkin pie! So extra win!
Happy Halloween cheers! #Halloween #Animation
Happy Halloween folks! Here is a little animated GIF i created this afternoon to help commemorate the festivities! Now go get some candy! cheers! -Bryce
I've been pretty busy so far in 2016, animating and storyboarding commercials and also creating some animations and maps for a couple of documentaries. One about Cuba and one that takes place in Africa. Both are recently completed and will screen soon in Europe and Canada respectively. I can't show any animation just yet but in the meantime here are a couple of screen shots for the doc that takes place in Africa which you can learn more about here:
It was a lot of fun working with the director to come up with the style. i am really happy with how it all turned out.
Some times, clients ask me to do animated gifs or illustrations or little animated videos for them to send out as holiday greetings. Sadly they never ask for them in August so it's always a big rush in November/December to get them finished in time. Still, despite the tight deadlines and modest budgets i think they turned out half decent. :) Also here's a link for the video of CSMLS holiday greeting. It was fun to do because even though it's a simple character it was full animation. cheers and Happy New Year! I like getting stuff int he mail. It's so rare now. But today i received two excellent packages. Firstly, there was a package from Bill Plympton! ( yaay) which contained an original animation sketch from his new movie "Cheatin' " as well a a colour print from a scene in the film. I pitched in to the kickstarter and this was one of the perks. I've been a fan of Mr. Plymptons since highschool when my Grandfather gave me a book on caricatures that featured his work. Then in college i discovered his films "Your Face", "How to Kiss" and others and always loved his style and the humour is very much up my alley. You should check out his Vimeo page where he has uploaded many behind the scenes and making of videos for his film. Also now that the film is finished I'll get to see it at this years TAAFI festival. If you are near or at least a quick drive to Toronto in June i highly recommend checking this out. Definitely looking forward to that.
Package #2 contained an ACME animation punch from Lightfoot ltd. It even comes with a little screw driver for adjustments! I've been wanting one of thee for a while and finally bit the bullet and got one. Very excited to be punching some regular paper and magically transforming it into ANIMATION PAPER. ( Oooh! AHHHH!) I used to buy animation paper Chromacolour in Calgary, AB, but they seem to have disappeared, so this will at least make sure i can still animate on paper in the future. Also i have some ideas for water colours and inks i'd like to try and this will allow me to punch different kinds of paper and experiment with that. I'll post some more about that over the summer.
So yaay for exciting animation mail!
Pictures below... i have no idea why they are upside down. They aren't upside down in the jpegs on my desktop... and i can't seem to change them here. Weird.
I finally managed to get my submission in for the inaugural TAAFi art book in Sunday night. I was hoping to have more time to do some original art specifically for the book but it's a mix of art from my various projects with some new doodles instead. At least it's something though. I look forward to seeing how it all turns out and everyone else's entries.
If you want to get your copy of the book they will be available through TAAFi during the festival. more info here: TAAFI link
er...I'm on Twitter i meant to say. I'm not yet sure what to do with it. I'm planning on posting weekly sketches and thought relating to animation and silly things. I think it would be a good work out for the creative brain. We shall see but if you are curious FOLLOW ME! @brycehallett on twitter (you can click the link on the top right of the page). In the meantime....the count down is on to finish my submission to the TAAFI art book. ( Toronto Animated Arts Festival International) If you haven't submitted your art , illustration or cartoon to the inaugural TAAFI art book you have until midnight tonight! Get drawing!
Recently when i was upgrading some software I use to animate with, the folks at Toon Boom asked what is was working on at the time and if they could do a little interview with me about how i use TB Harmony in that project. That's pretty flattering to be asked.
Here is the link to the article: Toon Boom link
I was hoping they would include more of the finished art and some animation and not just the really rough sketches but I'm not complaining. It was very nice to be interviewed and it's a software i actually do enjoy using so It's pretty cool to be included on their site. I've included some more concept art below. You can see how the style evolved from the almost stick figure stuff to the finished look that ended up as animation in the series. These seals are pretty close to the final design. Over all it was a fun project ot work on and i was really happy with how it turned out.
If you are interested in seeing the program that features the animation it's called "Explore More" and it is currently airing on TVO.
Howdy folks and happy Easter and pass-over to you. I've just update the Frog Feet website as it needed a bit of a tidy up. It's nothing fancy but I think it does the trick showcasing the animation, illustrations, design work, concept art and other cartoon goodness we've been producing here in Toronto.
My spring resolution is to post more art and sketches more frequently both to highlight stuff we are working on as well as to just share sketches and cartoons i think are fun.
Hope you enjoy it. I have some zombie art and some concept art for a documentary i recently finished creating animation for. I hope to share it with you all soon.
Happy Chocolate bunny day! cheers!
